The above photograph is a of my grandfather and grandmother during their early years.  The original photo was found in an old album during the late 1950s and was in relatively good condition but had numerous scratches and spots.  It needed restoration in order to be presentable for display.  Too, many family members wanted copies.  The photograph was maliciously restored and then printed on on quality, photo grade paper with archival ink.  The reproductions are displayed openly in numerous homes while the original has been stored in a safe place, away from damaging light.

The original  photograph above was taken in on December 15,1937.  It's a panoramic photo of the D.N. Carter Carpentry Crew at Pickwick Dam in Tennessee.  The original photograph, taken by Rell Clements, was about 22 inches wide and eight inches high.  It was rolled up and stored in my father's old lunch box.  I have no idea how my father acquired the photograph but he probably got it from someone at the Tennessee Valley Authority where he worked for many years as a steamfitter-welder.  From left to right, he is the fifth worker. The photograph had numerous cracks and was torn in several places.  Much of the print's emulsion was beginning to flake off.  Because it was such a wide photo, it took three scans to make a complete copy.  Those three scans were electronically stitched together and then restored.  It took several hours of tedious work to repair the photo, especially on the right side where there was extensive damage to the faces of the workers.

This is the restored photograph, printed on an Epson printer on Premium Glossy Photo paper, 22 by 8.5.  It is now displayed in a wide frame in a prominent location in my home.  The original has been carefully rolled and stored in a safe place.  It was determined that flattening the photo would cause additional extensive damage.  Click on each photograph to see a larger image.

This is an original school days photo from 1953-53 of my wife.  It was found in an old photo album at her parent's home.  Although it is in good condition, it still had a lot of white dust spots throughout the photograph that had to be removed and the brightness and contrast tweaked.  The original size was about 3x2.5 inches.

The photograph was restored and colorized.  The original lettering was retained.  It was also printed in black and white and sepia tone.
